Here’s how you can draw a missing road on Google Maps

Welcome to TNW Basics, a collection of tips, guides, and tips on how to get the most out of your gadgets, apps, and more.

Google Maps is a great way to find your way around cities and towns around the world. However, it is not perfect. You might find yourself at a dead end in the app, when there is a really good road ahead of you in reality. I know, I’ve been there.

As a person living in a complex geography like India, I have seen more roads than I could count that are not listed on Google Maps. Fortunately, the big G has recognized the problem and now allows you to draw these roads on the map yourself, paving the way for future app-dependent travelers..

Here is how you can do it:

  • Open Google Maps on your desktop.
  • Head to where you want to draw the road.
  • Click on the hamburger menu at the top left, then click on the “Edit Map” option.
  • Click on “Missing Road” and mark the missing road by drawing lines.

Once the team reviews these changes, they will approve your changes and add the new route. Google Maps has also made it easier to rename roads and report road closures with timelines with its new desktop roads editor.

This new route editor is rolling out in more than 80 countries over the coming months, you may have to wait a bit before redrawing the world map.
